If you like your humor broadside up, hold the subtlety, you'll want to nurse this Hangover with your best buds. The ensemble cast meshes perfectly--it's like a super-R-rated episode of Friends: silly, slapstick, and completely in the viewer's face. When four pals go to Vegas to celebrate the imminent nuptials of one of them, they partake in a rooftop toast to "a night we'll never forget." But they're in for a big surprise: their celebration drinks were laced with date-rape drugs, so when they awake in their hotel room 12 hours later, not only are they hung over, but they can't remember what they did all night long. Oh, and they're missing the groom-to-be.

The film is so cheerfully raunchy, so fiercely crude, that the humor becomes as intoxicating as the mind-altering substances. The standout in the ensemble is Zach Galifianakis, who is alternately creepy and hilarious. Ed Helm (The Office), in addition to his memory, loses a tooth in uncomfortably realistic fashion, and Bradley Cooper (He's Just Not That into You) has deadpan comic timing that whips along at the speed of light. "Ma'am, you have an incredible rack," he blares to a pedestrian from the squad car the guys have "borrowed." "I should have been a [bleeping] cop," he tells himself approvingly.

Director Todd Phillips brings back his deft handling of the actors and the dude humor that worked so well in Old School, as well as the unctuous Dan Finnerty, memorable as a lounge/wedding singer in both films. But it's the nonstop volley of jokes--most cheerily politically incorrect--that grabs the audience and thrashes it around the hotel room. Just watch out for the tiger in the bathroom. --A.T. Hurley

I was a little hesitant to see this movie, it seemed like one of the all too recent movies where all of the good parts are featured in the trailer, and that's all you've got. So not the case. Not only was it a packed theatre at the midnight showing, but there was not any interval longer than three minutes that had a quiet audience. Nobody could stop laughing!
From Zach Galifiakanis, we had a stellar show. His ability to play the creepy weirdo is out of this world. His wolf pack speech was amazing.
The cameo from Mike Tyson was hilarious!
Don't miss the end credits where a lot of the missing information is revealed.

I bought this bionic eye at its full price $40 last year, that was after I almost paid $400 for a similar system at LA science museum. I think it well worth it if you plan to introduce some basic science knowledge to your kids at home.

Having that said, as the other reviewer also noted, my 4 years old showed little interest. It's tricky to focus and hold the sensor steadily so that you have a meaningful image on the TV screen.

They know have a second generation item which comes with its own LCD display. I bought that too, immediately, but it still sat in the box after about a year. I am still waiting for my child to develop interests and curiosity in exploring unknowns.

At today's sale price of $5, it definitely worth every penny. I am going to buy a few to donate to daycares in the area.

Fans of the previous game will be very impressed with Assassin's Creed II. I must say that the previous game was quite disappointing. I felt it had a lot of potential as a game but the repetitive gameplay and frame-rate issues made it a big let down. This time though things have changed drastically for the good. I have yet to complete the game but have played enough to formulate a review.

The first thing you'll notice is that the game has a very cinematic feel. The cutscenes are a bit lengthy and drive the story very well. The voice acting is pretty good and the lip syncing is almost spot on. Graphically the game is stunnning. The first Assassians creed looked very pretty but this one seems a notch above it. There is no denying the beauty of it all.

The gameplay has a very GTA style feel to it. You go from place to place to do a variety of different things. Unlike the last game where the gameplay was very reptitive where each section of the game required you to gather information in order to assassinate your victim (which only consisted of 3 or 4 different ways). Ubisoft have completely revamped that flawed style into a more enjoyable experience. Basically, think GTA but in the 15th century.

The freestyle movement is well done and easy to use. Although sometimes I had difficulty jumping up walls, Pressing the X button sometimes makes Ezio jump outwards rather than up. Having said that, its still an enjoyable experience, very much like the last game. Its also quite easy to navigate around your map.

The combat system hasn't changed that much. There are a few minor modifications. Ezio can do a few different things this time round like snatch enemy weopons while fighting and thrusting them down there body. The combat is a lot of fun and quite easy to learn. Also Ubisoft have added a currency system in the game. You can steal money from passing citizens or search enemies for money or earn money by doing errands and missions. The money can be spent on buying weopons and armor or upgrading current items. It makes the game much more enjoyable and interactive.

One thing of note is that this game is not for kids. There is a lot of sexuality in this game. Ezio can hire whores to distract gaurds and there is a bit of dirty talk. Its fun but some might feel it to be offensive. The ESRB does rate it at 17+, young children should stay away from this game.

There are a few minor glitches in the game but nothing major. I had a problem picking up boxes in the beginning of the game but nothing major so far. Hopefully these issues will be fixed with a patch.

Overall this game is a lot of fun. Its way better than the previous game. Anyone who enjoyed Assassins Creed should pick this one up. They will not be disappointed.

I'm a freelance journalist who was interested in voice recognition for transcription. I figured it was time to give Nuance a shot. I took the product out of the box yesterday, loaded it, trained the software for about 10 minutes (read a bit of a Dilbert book excerpt, which was entertaining in itself), then loaded up a voice file.

Because the software recognizes one voice only, I played the file in Sony Digital Voice Editor, listened, and repeated/summarized what I was hearing in my own voice via the included headset. The software can't hear what the sound card plays in this case, so this sort of cacophony isn't a problem to NaturallySpeaking 10 Standard. I know this because it worked nearly perfectly once I trained it to write NCAR rather than "and car," which took maybe 30 seconds.

Rough transcription (just getting the info down, spelling and punctuation be damned) usually takes 2-2.5x the actual spoken-word recording time, in my experience; this product is going to pay for itself in a couple of long interviews.

When I first saw Croc's I thought they were the ugliest shoe ever made. My fiance got a pair of Redskin Crocs and made me try them on to see how light they were. I put them on and they felt great! However, I still didn't want a pair because they were pretty darn ugly. I went to the Croc's website and saw the many different types they make and came across the mary janes. I'm a huge fan of mary jane shoes and these weren't as hidious as the regular ones. I ordered a pair from amazon in a basic black and now I can't go anywhere without them. They are perfect for shopping, going to the beach (much easier than walking in flip-flops), washing the car, etc. I have plantar fascitis and I can wear these shoes all day without my feet killing me. I have to admit that I didn't really watch this show when it was on air, but just like most shows that I get into, it's when they are in re-runs. I really got into this show when I started working at a TV station that aired "That '70s Show." The problem was we nevered really aired all the episodes, so since getting the box set I started seeing episodes that I have never seen before and viewing the shows in the order that they originally aired, makes show a lot more sence to me. I find this box set to be exactly what I wanted when purchasing all the episodes. I wasn't looking for a lot of thrills, just the DVDs containing all the episodes. This box set is straight to the point and doesn't take up a lot of room on my DVD storage shelf. I do find the interviews and the few extras very interesting and having a copy of the final script to the last episode was a nice little touch. The only complaint I have is that the DVDs are packed a little to tight in the box. Other than that I am very happy with this purchase and I would recommend this DVD box set to any person who is a fan of "That '70s Show." My only question is what would have happened if the show went more than 10 seasons, because a decade is only 10, years long. Just an after thought. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Impressive special effects are the key selling point for this big-budget remake of Robert Wise's classic 1951 science fiction parable about an alien visitor who delivers a chilling ultimatum to the leaders of the world. Keanu Reeves, who seemed ideal at first blush but ultimately turns into another case of miscasting, steps in for Michael Rennie as intergalactic watchdog Klaatu, who with his robot Gort (now super-sized), promises global destruction unless the powers that be unless drastic measures are undertaken regarding the Earth's environmental issues (or so one assumes). Jennifer Connelly is largely wasted in the Patricia Neal role of scientist/single mom assigned to study Klaatu, who offers a somewhat chilly father figure to her son (a grating Jaden Smith). Connelly isn't the only fine actor in the cast left standing idle while director Scott Derrickson's effects team constructs eye-popping scenes of wholesale mayhem; Mad Men's Jon Hamm, Kathy Bates, John Cleese and Rob Knepper are all adrift in the aimless script by David Scarpa, which never even fully explains why Klaatu is so bent on blowing us to smithereens. That lack of focus, as well as the B-movie quality of the dialogue (say what you will about the effects in the Wise version, but the film was polished from top to bottom), all help to cement what science fiction fans have been muttering about the film since its inception; the original film needed no high-tech updating.

I have always been a fan of the Original movie and i watched the original before i watched this movie. I STILL LOVE THEM BOTH!!! You need to see the point of the movie, we as humans are destroying our earth/ouselves and before we fully destroy earth/ourselves the Alien came to warn to see if we could change. If we do not listen (as hard headed as humans are) then they will destroy us. But its not about the alien destroying us, its US...we are destroying our way of life. If things dont change we are going to be extinct! I have seen this movie 3 times and all three times i have had goosebumps! Keanu was perfect for this movie...he is one of my Favorite Actors! Before you judge, you need to see the meaning behind the storyline need to see beyond the computer imaging. I guess i am a movie critic, i always find things to say about it or find the meaning behind the movies. :) This is a great movie if you look beyond the computer images (which i thought it was excellent even GORT-He was a trip-lol) and hear and pay attention to the story, the meaning behind the story. I hope this helps those who have watched the movie and was not happy with it...I was Happy with it. I also felt like it was a little too fast and too short...they could have added some things to it and slowed it down a bit. :) But in overall...it was an excellent movie and i can wait to see it again...both the original (black and white) and this one!!! p.s. everyone has the right to their own opinions!

Amazing tool and toy!!
I bought a Fuze a few weeks, upgrading from a Treo 680. I must say that they are totally different animals. The Treo was an effective, rather basic tool for work and communication. The Fuze is a highly sophisticated pocket computer that has an incredible range of uses from business to play. Here are more specific thoughts:

1. Choices: I looked at the Treo Pro, Samsung Epix, and the Blackberry Bold. The Fuze sold me on all of the issues I will discuss below.

2. Form factor: I'm not one of those business guys you see in airports with their phones in their belt holsters (not a good look in my view). I always keep my phone in my pants or shirt pocket, so the Treo (and just about every other smartphone) is just too big for that. The smaller size is great for me. Admittedly, the Fuze is a bit heavy and thicker than most, but the smaller over-all size makes up for that.

3. Keyboard: I might have been tempted to get an iPhone, but I use my phone a great deal for emailing while traveling and I just couldn't get the hang of typing on a virtual keyboard. The Fuze's slide-out keyboard is expansive compared to the Treo's and other smartphones of that style. I love the top row of punctuation because I use punctuation much more than numbers and it's nice not to have to press the Fn key for such a necessity while writing.

4. Tweakability: In researching the Fuze I found some amazing web sites devoted to it, including fuzemobility.com and xda-developers.com. Though I love technology, I'm no technophile, so I was really stumped when I began to install apps and tweak the Fuze. But thanks to some great people in helpful forums at xda-developers.com, I was able to install many great programs (e.g., FM radio, free GPS, more attractive theme, even convert the camera flash into a flashlight) and tweak its functioning and appearance so it can do so much more than just out of the box. I was also able to remove that annoying bloatware that AT&T puts on the phone.

5. Windows Mobile: Though Windows Mobile is often criticized, once I got the hang of it, and learned where everything was located (not at all intuitive), I'm able to move around the Fuze easily. I've also set up my menus and tabs so those apps I use most often are readily available. It is a bit slow periodically.

6. Syncing: The integration with my PC, primarily my Outlook calendar and contacts, is a breeze. I was concerned about transferring my Palm data to Outlook, but after researching different options, I found the easiest is to simply reinstall the Palm software and designate Outlook as the program I would be using.

7. Screen: It is incredibly sharp and detailed. I find the TouchFlo screen generally easy to use. Coming from a Palm, I usually use the stylus. I must admit that the screen often confuses swiping with opening, which can be annoying. But over all, I find it beats a scroll wheel.

8. Camera: No smartphone I found had a 3.2 camera that can take real, useable pics. Nice to have when I forget my camera.
9. Voice Command: Amazingly enough, the Voice Command actually works for calling and opening programs.

10. Annoyances: no 3.5 headphone jack, two different Programs pages, can't move around icons on the various screens. All very minor.

Over all: A powerful business tool and a great toy.

I purchased this device a few weeks ago in anticipation of a trip to the UK. I've driven there before, navigating with the excellent AA road atlases, but being an American driving a right hand drive car with a manual transmission, sometimes in bad weather, I would often get task-saturated. I thought a GPS or "Sat Nav" as they call them, would make the job a little easier.
The only features that I really needed in a GPS unit were the U.S and European maps and text-to-speech, ("turn left on High street"), beyond that, additional whistles and bells didn't matter to me.
Initially I looked at both Garmin and TomTom and decided to go with Garmin since it was less expensive to find a unit that had North American and European maps. I paid about $270 for my 275T, it was the least expensive unit that had European maps pre-installed. Buying the European map separately would cost you approximately $150 and the UK-only map runs about $99.
The 275T operation is fairly straight forward. It has all of the normal features that one would expect to find on a modern GPS unit to include a fairly robust POI (Point Of Interest) database loaded with gas stations, restaurants, airports etc... The touch screen works well and although the size is smaller, (3.5" vs 4.3" on some larger units), it was more than adequate to display all of the necessary information. The voice directions are very helpful, especially when driving in heavy traffic. Traffic updates in the US arrive via an FM transmitter in the charger cord, (in Europe you have to plug in an antenna wire which comes with the unit). You can also easily preload lots of destinations to your "favorites" on the device by using the Google map or Panoramio photo websites.
In the UK the 275T proved to be invaluable; you feel much freer to stray from the beaten path and do a bit of exploring knowing that your GPS will always get you to your appointed destination. The time to destination estimates were accurate and the routes were efficient. When initially turned on, the unit located satellites quickly and never lost the connection except when in parking garages, or tunnels. Sometimes when surrounded by lots of tall buildings, like in downtown London, the unit would appear to get confused about the direction in which it was pointing. Moving the car just a few dozen feet or so normally corrected this. The included Europe maps were very accurate with the exception of a new stretch of highway between Falkirk and Edinburgh which was not included on the map database. Road names, one-way streets, and parking areas were all up to date. I found the inclusion of "safety camera" locations, (read: "speed trap cameras"), to be very helpful; it even flashed a red warning when you exceed the speed limit in an area with a camera.
The only feature that I sometimes wish was included was a compass heading. If you just turn on the unit, but don't program in a destination, your directional heading, (North, East etc...), is displayed in the lower right hand corner. However when it's giving you directions, your estimated time to arrival takes up that area of the screen. Overall however, I thought the unit was great and I would recommend the 275T if your travels take you between North America and Europe on occasion. Renting a GPS with your car in the UK will typically add about $15 per day; use your 275T for a couple weeks and it's practically paid for itself.

When I purchased this TV from Amazon.com I had already decided on this Samsung 52" series and was trying to decide between the 650 and the 750. At the time there was a small price difference between the two on Amazon.com. I ended up choosing the 650 because I was placing the TV inside a nook that had limited space.

The 650 has a less bulky frame around the LCD screen and therefore it was only 50.2 inches wide as compared to the 750 which is 52" wide. Both screens have the exact same visual display area. Beyond trying to accommodate my limited space, I felt that the smaller frame looked nicer on the TV than the larger frame.

The other reason I chose the 650 is that it can swivel on the base, whereas the 750 is fixed on its base. Because I have placed the TV in a nook, this swivel feature has come in very handy as I have had to get behind it from time to time to plug in cords, etc.

I have read a lot about screen reflection and was bracing myself for a potentially unpleasant experience during daytime viewing, especially since the room the TV is in has windows all the way across two walls and is full of sunlight daily. I'm happy to report that screen reflection is absolutely no problem. The TV that I was replacing with the Samsung LCD was an older 32" Panasonic Panablack analog TV with the glass screen, which had a lot of reflection. As a point of reference, the Samsung has about 20% of the screen reflection of my old TV (judging from when the TV is off). When the TV is on, the Samsung has about 5% of screen reflection compared with what I used to have with my old TV, which may be due to the incredible brightness of the display.

I spent a number of months on this decision and I feel like I hit a home run with this purchase. Samsung has certainly exceeded my expectations with this model and I have been very satisfied with my first experience of buying a TV online from Amazon.com.

DEC 20, 2008 UPDATE: I've now owned the TV for more than 6 months. No regrets. The TV has survived well in a family with 5 kids under age 10. It's taken some direct hits to the screen with toys thrown by a 2-year-old but any marks on the screen easily rubbed off. It still looks just like the day I first got it and runs perfectly. I'm very happy with this purchase.

The Wii Fit Balance Board

The primary tenet of Wii Fit is balance. Your center of balance, the point between your left and right sides when you stand upright, has a lot to do with your health. Those without an even center of balance will be unnaturally compensating for this imbalance, which causes their posture to become misaligned, increasing the possibility of putting unnecessary strain on their bodies. This is where the Wii Balance Board comes in.

Similar in appearance to a step aerobics board, the Wii Balance Board is much, much more. Easily capable of supporting weights up to a maximum of 300 pounds, it is sturdy and precise, able to measure weight and register pressure accurately when placed on a variety of flat surfaces. This advanced level of sensitivity allows for both the wide range of activities found in the Wii Fit software as well as the board's amazing ability recognize individual players by their weight alone.

Getting Started: Create a Profile

Before you jump into doing exercises and activities, you’ll start by creating a profile. This is done easily and intuitively by simply choosing a Mii, entering your height and age information, and doing a few quick tests that will serve as a baseline for your new Wii fitness regimen. These tests are:

BMI Check: BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that is the standard used by agencies such as the World Health Organization and the National Institute of Health. To check your BMI, you’ll enter your height then stand on the Wii Balance Board and let it read your weight.

Wii Fit Age: After you’ve checked your BMI, you’ll do a basic balance test and find out your current Wii Fit Age. This basic balance test measures how well you can control your left and right balance. Based on the results, you’ll be assigned a Wii Fit Age.

Wii Fit Review: Can It Really Help You Shape Up?

Wii Fit's doing something right. A couple of days into the game's workout regimen, I didn't want to keep playing -- it is exercise, after all. But I persevered, and eventually I improved at the minigames, felt physically challenged on some exercises, and generally felt better after racking up 15 or 30 minutes a day of Wii fitness. But I never really wanted to play. Which, I suppose, is the rule of exercise -- it's exhausting, but keep it up, and you'll feel great at all other times of the day.

That's mostly how Wii Fit is. The yoga and strength training aren't really even games; you just follow along with a trainer, working out in the world's most lifeless, depressing gym. Certainly, lunges and leg lifts are great for developing muscle strength -- and if you can successfully hold plank poses the way your trainer does, you're sure to burn off at least a few of those Mario-themed cupcakes you inhaled last night at dinner.

But measuring success is one of Wii Fit's shortcomings. While the Balance Board (the game's packed-in peripheral, which is a bit bigger than a bathroom scale) seems to sense -- quite precisely -- your center of balance and how hard you're pushing, it's sometimes tough to tell whether the game is praising you for performing the exercise right, or doing so just because you managed to keep your heel or toe dug in particularly well on a given move. It certainly lets you know when you're doing something horribly wrong (for example, if you put the wrong leg down because you lost balance), but Wii Fit's definition of "right" feels a bit more vague.

Still, for people who don't exercise (or haven't in a very, very long time), the game's suite of yoga poses -- ranging from very simple bends and stretches to more advanced, challenging fare such as the warrior pose and sun salutation -- serve as a wonderful introduction to the healthy practice. And for the honest gamer looking to get fit (and not "game" the Board's sensitivity), the strength training offers a genuine workout that you won't get from any other videogame. The feedback Wii Fit gives you via its unique controller is unlike anything I've seen, and I've played a few dancepad- and EyeToy-based exercise games in my time.

For pure entertainment, the aerobic- and balance-based minigames (dancing, skiing, etc.) are much more fun and lively. Snowboarding feels real...and once you get the hang of hula-hooping, it gets the heart pumping and makes you look completely ridiculous (always a bonus in my book). Some of the minigames are as great as anything you'll play in Wii Sports, with one notable caveat: Wii Fit doesn't do a whole lot with multiplayer. Obviously, it's unrealistic to expect one household to have multiple Balance Boards, so multiplayer is limited to a jogging minigame, which doesn't even use the board (you put the Wii Remote in your pocket and run in place). Despite that understandable rationale, it's a damn shame that Nintendo didn't incorporate better multiplayer support, which could've made it legitimately more fun for the whole family to exercise together.

All activities in Wii Fit award Fit Credits, which unlock more exercises and minigames. And this unlocking mechanic -- combined with the fact that the game ranks all the players on your Wii on the same leaderboard -- helps motivate you to keep playing. I found myself particularly addicted to certain games (the one where you head soccer balls while avoiding other flying objects, and another where your Mii is in a bubble, trying to navigate along a twisty river), trying to earn more Fit Credits and improve my score (and beat my housemates). Unlocking a new difficulty level or length of exercises ("Woo-hoo, now I can do 20 reps instead of 10!") isn't quite as rewarding, but earning credits to open up new minigames feels fantastic.

For an exercise game, Wii Fit gives you a surprising amount of freedom -- and that's not always a good thing. Yes, you're supposed to weigh yourself each day and test your core muscles to gauge overall progress. And, yes, the game keeps a chart of your weight loss (or gain, as was the case with me) and body mass index trends. But while the Mii integration is positively brilliant -- it scales your Mii relatively fatter or thinner based on your actual stats -- this modicum of structure isn't likely to keep couch potatoes from slacking. I wanted more regulation, more guidance, more demands. When you have complete freedom to choose what you want to do, you might find yourself cheating, despite your best intentions. I mean, c'mon -- this is a workout game. I self-motivated on plenty of challenging activities (running in place, lunges), yet I still found myself doing lots of simple yoga poses and rudimentary calisthenics to unlock more stuff with minimal effort. I guess I'd hoped an exercise videogame would make fitness a lot more fun -- and easier to do. And, though it doesn't quite exceed those expectations, Wii Fit will get you moving -- especially if you're looking for a gentle, fun introduction to an exercise program.

I had heard about the fantasy books by a friend when they first came out but didn't have the time to look into them. By the time the movie came out, I'd nearly forgotten about the book referral, but asked my hubby to take me as it looked like a good vampire romance flick. The scenery of the Pacific Northwest forests, rivers, and coastline was breathtaking and as a native to this area, it was like going out into my own backyard which made the film that more appealing. I was so captivated by the actors portrayal of the characters (the facial expressions and emotions brought out of the characters by Rob, Kristen, Peter, Nikki, and the rest were mesmerizing) and the depth of the back-story left me desiring more! The very next day after viewing the movie in the theater - I raced to the bookstore to grab the first book. I was hooked, read through all four books (plus went to the authors website to read the extra materials she had posted there) in a week. Then, still not satisfied, went back and saw the movie several more times - IN THE THEATER, something I've never felt compelled to do before - because I was so drawn to the characters and the story. This may have been written for the young adult audience but I'm 32 and a parent of four children, and still found the story to be well worth my time.

If you haven't read the stories, I encourage you to do so. Regardless, this film will be a treasured part of your movie collection and one you'll be sure to watch several times before you'll feel satisfied.

The big-screen adaptation of Twilight, Stephenie Meyer's bestselling vampire romance, is aimed squarely at its key demographic: teen girls whose idea of Prince Charming is a brooding, pale, undead teen who could kill you instantly at any moment. Such a prince is more fascinating than frightening to new girl Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), who moves to the rainy-gray town of Forks, Wash., to live with her dad (Billy Burke), the local sheriff who's puzzled by a series of "animal attacks." On her first day at school, Bella appears to (visibly) nauseate her lab partner, Edward (Robert Pattinson). Turns out the scent of her blood is this vampire's "brand of heroin," and his struggle not to kill her causes an irresistible pull toward her. Whether he's attracted for the normal reasons or because she smells especially sweet to him is vague in the book and even less clear on-screen; nonetheless, Bella falls hopelessly in love with Edward, which sets her on a dangerous path when a few nomad vampires show up in town, one particularly keen on tracking the human. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen), Twilight is full of funny moments--not all of which are intentional--and the casting, from Stewart to Bella's self-absorbed friend Jessica (Anna Kendrick) is spot-on. The weakest link, unfortunately, is Pattinson. While he certainly looks the part, his Edward could have used an extra injection of testosterone (Pattinson, who is British, used James Dean as a model for his American accent). In scenes where he growls about the temptation to kill those who would harm Bella, or flitting around a forest warning her how dangerous he is, he comes off more like a whimpering puppy than a debonair monster. The good news is, his chemistry with Stewart (particularly in their big kissing scene) is palpable, which, let's face it, is really what matters to Twilight fans most. --Ellen A. Kim

For those who may be interested in acquiring an iPod Touch as a replacement for a PDA, I have found it to be quite useful. The primary function used in this regard is syncing with Microsoft Outlook, which works flawlessly. Now I can check appointments and find those phone numbers for early morning conference calls without waiting 10 minutes for my laptop to boot up.

The new software improves the functionality by adding the notes capability, and I even find myself frequently viewing video podcasts - something I never thought I would use.

The most important functions for me in a portable device are calendar, music, notes, photos, and Audible book playback, all of which this iPod handles very nicely. I have also used the maps feature for driving directions - load it up while on the home WiFi network, then the directions are retained for reference - in a much more useful format than if you print out the directions on Google. Just bring along a navigator, as I would not recommend trying to read the iPod while driving. The same applies to paper maps, of course.

On the downside, the battery life has not been great - less than two hours if actively using WiFi.

I upgraded from the N95 8Gig (also a seriously great phone) to this. I love both, but I prefer the N96 because it has a bigger memory plus the ability to expand. I added an 8Gig card SanDisk 8GB MicroSD Card ( SDSDQ 008G A11M)and have loaded lots of music and movies. In preparation for a trip I am loading other movies on additional cards so I can switch them out. Although watching on such as small screen takes some getting used to, this expansion feature is enough for me to favor this over the N95. The quality of videos is excellent, but I don't recommend you try to watch films with subtitles :-).

The only minus of this v. the N95 is that the N96 has a noticeably shorter battery life (only on standby and voice calls). I only had to charge my N95 every few days; this one needs it every day or two at the most.

The camera is excellent. In fact, it is the only camera I used on a recent trip and the still pictures and videos are as good as my very expensive (and very heavy) camera. Having only one thing to carry in my pocket without sacrificing picture quality was wonderful, (and the phone/camera was envied by all who saw it).

The phone has lots of useful features even if, like me, you don't subscribe to a data package. I use the phone to attach to wi-fi when out and check my e-mail, shop at Amazon, etc. This does not use the cell service and so there is no data charge.

I still haven't figured out the GPS system, but then again I haven't spent very much time on it. Not everything on these phones is intuitive and the written instruction book is lacking, but Nokia has an excellent web site with all the information I have needed to answer my questions.

This phone is really expensive, but it is worth it. Highly recommended for anyone with the desire for a great smart phone the ability to buy it.

I own a Canon PowerShot A590IS 8MP Digital Camera and consider myself a photography enthusiast. I wanted a small compact camera with me when I don’t want to lug around my DSLR + lenses and equipment. After a previous good experience with the Canon A720 IS, the new A590 IS seemed like a good choice.

Since I’m an advanced photographer, I’ll focus on the advanced features of this camera. The auto modes work as well as any other camera in its class, but the extensive manual features is what sets apart the Canon A series. What I like about the camera:

Compact, stylish. It’s smaller than older A Powershots, and the dark grey color gives it a seriousness compared to the typical bright silver finish.

Image stabilization works very well, it allows me to take blur-free photos 2-3 stops below the recommended shutter speed, that means at 35-50mm f2.8 1/10 sec shots are CONSISTENTLY possible indoors without using flash.

Good image quality. Expected from Canon, but even better is adjustable contrast, saturation, and sharpness settings, along with the typical JPG compression and resolution sizes.

Fast and responsive. I was surprised how responsive this camera is even compared with my DSLR. Shutter lag is very low for a compact digicam, and when I pre-focus with manual focus, it’s even faster.

Manual modes. Aperture priority and shutter priority are great, the M mode is even better than other A Powershots such as the A720 because now there’s a light meter on the right side that adjusts live based on what the camera thinks is the optimal exposure setting. And you can adjust aperture/shutter speed and see how it affects the final exposure. Ideally a live histogram would be even better, but this is very handy.

Manual focus. Although the LCD resolution is not good enough, even with the point zoom option, manual focus helps in close-up work and pre-focusing for action or creative photography.

Manual flash modes. In addition to automatic flash. The manual flash allows me to adjust the flash power in 3 levels, and prevents a pre-flash. This last part is important for using a remote optical slave flash. I can basically take professional looking studio pictures with this camera with my external flash equipment.

Optical viewfinder. I don’t use this much yet, but can come in handy in bright sunlight conditions, or when battery conservation is needed.

Battery performance seems improved over previous A powershots too. The official specs give it 220 shots on regular alkalines and 500 on rechargeable NiMHs. Good news is they use common AA batteries that you can buy anywhere instead of proprietary models with specific chargers.

It also has a control to vary the fan speed. To avoid excess heating, it has a auto-shut-off option which shuts of the heater automatically after a period of time. Installation: The Graco Nautilus installs with ease. Attach the back onto the seat, slide the headrest on, and pop the arm rests to the seat, and you're ready. Install the Nautilus using LATCH or your vehicle's seat belts. The Nautilus works three ways:

As a 5-point harness seat (20 - 65 lbs and 27" - 62")
As a belt-positioning booster (30 - 100 lbs and 38" - 57")
As a backless booster (40 - 100 lbs and 40" - 57")

Note: Your vehicle's manual may state a set weight limit for its LATCH anchors (40 or 48 lbs). For use with children above this weight while still in the 5-point harness, the seat must be installed using vehicle seat belts. As a backless booster, use only the vehicle lap and shoulder belts to secure both child and seat. You may install the seat with LATCH or seat belts for both the harnessed seating configuration and the high back booster mode; however, you cannot use LATCH to install the Nautilus as a backless booster.

Convenience: Clean the Nautilus' cover by machine washing in cold water on the delicate cycle and drip drying. With a narrow profile, the Nautilus fits well in many cars. Neutral fabrics and a modern look don't overwhelm your style.

About Graco

In 1942, Russell Gray and Robert Cone formed Graco Metal Products, in Philadelphia, PA. For 11 years, the firm fabricated machine and car parts for local manufacturers.
